CIMA BA2 Syllabus A. THE CONTEXT OF MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING - The Management Accountant's Position - Notes 6 / 6
What is the management accountant's position?
Traditional View of a Management Accountant
Part of financial accounts, but they work more on providing cost information.
This view is a bit old fashioned as most cost accounts are automated now, and therefore management accountants have come out of being part of financial accounts and become separate business partners of themselves
This means that the work across all the functional teams.
To do this, they need good business knowledge of their business and all businesses in general.
A company could outsource both management accountants and financial accountants completely.
Benefits of doing this are that there are less costs as they are only used when they are needed, and they would be specialists and this is their job all the time.
Some disadvantages of doing this are control and confidentiality is lost.
Finally, a shared service centre could be made, where there is no special team for marketing or production, there is a shared service team - which all the functions use.
This ensure that all functions have good service quality, it ensures consistency across the business also.
