Intranets, Wireless & Network Technologies 2 / 7

Intranet

An intranet is a private network within an organisation that only authorised users can access.

It allows for sharing information among employees while ensuring controls are in place to limit access to relevant information.

It facilitates collaboration, document sharing, and remote working.

Wireless Technology

Wireless technology enables data transmission between devices without physical connections.

It uses technologies like Wi-Fi, mobile phone networks, Bluetooth, and RFID.

It is increasingly used for communication and has various applications such as internet access, device connectivity, and data storage.

Network Technology

Network technology connects multiple devices through physical or wireless connections.

Examples include:
LAN (Local Area Network) for computers in close proximity
WAN (Wide Area Network) for global connectivity like the Internet
SAN (Storage-Area Network) for high-speed shared storage, and
VPN (Virtual Private Network) for secure remote access to private networks.
