Safeguards 5 / 6

CIMA Code of Ethics provides examples of safeguards that may be appropriate to address threats to compliance with the fundamental principles and also provides examples of situations.

If a safeguard is not available to address the threats, then the activity or relationship that causes the threat should be avoided altogether.

Additionally, if you believe that the client is asking you to perform an unethical activity now and will continue to do so in the future, you should inform them that you will not be able to work with them in the future.

An example of a safeguard is:
- If there is a familiarity threat, and an old friend is asking you to do accounting work for him, ask your colleague to handle the matter.
