CIMA E1 Syllabus C. Data And The Finance Function - Business Intelligence - Notes 3 / 8
What is business intelligence?
Business Intelligence
BI is a technology driven process of analysing business data to create insightful information to help improve the operations/products of a business.
BI systems are built to access and analyse this data further and present the findings using data visualisation techniques as well as traditional summaries and reports.
Therefore, data visualisation, real time access, reports and dashboards are at the top of the BI stack.
As the volume, variety and velocity of data are increasing exponentially through social media, live streaming etc, products are purchased to help manage the rate at which data is received and the variety of formats that the data is received in.
An example of a product that does this is Hadoop, it uses innovative techniques to handle the challenges that are presented by the volume, variety and velocity of big data.
