CIMA E2 Syllabus C. Managing projects - Project Initiation Document - Notes 5 / 5
What is a PID?
A Project Initiation Document(PID) provides a common understanding of a project by defining the project's overall boundaries. It is part of the ‘identification of need’ phase of the project life cycle.
The purpose of a PID is to:
Act as a base document against which progress can be assessed.
Justify the project.
Define the project and its scope.
A PID normally contains these elements in the following order:
Purpose statement
Project Objectives
The approach to be taken to the project
Key deliverables and desired outcomes
Any areas excluded from the project
Any constraints, such as budget or available resources
Any assumptions on which the PID is based
List of major stakeholders
