CIMA E2 Syllabus C. Managing projects - Projects: Pure Project Organisation - Notes 5 / 6
A pure project organisation consists of:
a permanent project board supported by team members who are brought in on an ad hoc, as needed basis
A permanent project board:
Is made up of managers, directors and administrative staff
Monitors the work of the project manager, who co-ordinates the project team for the duration of the project
The project team itself is constructed on an ad hoc basis. Team membership is conditional and flexible
Advantages of a pure project organisation:
Flexible labour ensures other departments are not needlessly deprived of productivity
Potentially saves on financial employment costs in the event that work on the project is independently remunerated
Disadvantages of a pure project organisation:
There may be less communication between members and lower commitment to overall success
There may be a lack of continuity and coherence as new people come and go
