Projects: Pure Project Organisation 5 / 6

A pure project organisation consists of:

a permanent project board supported by team members who are brought in on an ad hoc, as needed basis

A permanent project board:

  1. Is made up of managers, directors and administrative staff

  2. Monitors the work of the project manager, who co-ordinates the project team for the duration of the project

  3. The project team itself is constructed on an ad hoc basis. Team membership is conditional and flexible

Advantages of a pure project organisation:

  • Flexible labour ensures other departments are not needlessly deprived of productivity

  • Potentially saves on financial employment costs in the event that work on the project is independently remunerated

Disadvantages of a pure project organisation:

  • There may be less communication between members and lower commitment to overall success

  • There may be a lack of continuity and coherence as new people come and go
