Approaches to management control

NotesQuizObjective TestMock

There are 4 approaches to management control:

  1. Classical approach - In this approach, control is essential due to the hierarchical structure of the organisation. It is based on rules and regulations.

  2. Scientific approach - This approach uses job, process analysis and time study to establish optimum production methods and rates.

  3. Human relations approach - This approach highlights the importance of social organisation and informal relationships.

  4. Contingency approach - In this approach, organisational control is viewed as a variable and the nature of effective control depends on the situation.

Control is exercised by activities that DO NOT form an essential part of the process, but are additional and undertaken to enhance the likelihood of achieving the objective of the process.

Setting up the control environment is done at strategic level of an organisation.
