CIMA E2 Syllabus C. Managing projects - Critical Pathway - Notes 8 / 16
The critical path through a network is:
the chain of activities whose times determine the overall duration of the project.
Using our ‘Example Above’ (EA), the critical pathway will be ACFH.
Steps to finding the critical pathway:
Find the final event where EET = LET (Event 7)
Find the event series that leads up to this final event where EET = LET (in all of the events).
(Event 1 - 2 - 4 - 6- 7)
Find the activities that follow these events, this is the critical pathway. (A - C - F - H)
The total of the durations of these activities will be the duration of the critical pathway.
This is the critical pathway. It is the pathway where there is no float/slack.
